The Story of Three Princes and a Dragon- A Parable

God gave me a story, a parable about seeing the task God gives us and then choosing to obey, or not. This relates to the call of Jeremiah (see Jeremiah 1:1-10). But it relates to all of us, because Jesus invites us all to be dragon slayers.

So, as Jesus would say, the kingdom of heaven is like this.

Once upon a time there was a king who had three sons. Everyone in the kingdom was prosperous and happy until a fierce dragon came and terrorised the people.

The king said to his eldest son, “Go and kill the dragon and set my people free.”

But the son was afraid and he ran off to a distant land. He never became a king.

So the king said to the second son, “Go and kill the dragon and set my people free.”

But the son refused, saying, “I was born for a life of luxury in the palace. I shall stay here and feast.” He never became king.

So the king said to the youngest son, “Go and kill the dragon and set my people free.”

The youngest son said, “Father I am afraid, and I don't know how to kill dragons. But because you ask me I will go and do this.'

The king replied, “Son you were born for this task. You have been taught by the greatest warriors in the land. I will give you my finest sword and my fastest horse, and you will succeed.”

So, with his father's blessing, and great dread in his heart, the youngest son went and sought out the dragon and killed it.

This son was much loved by his people, married a beautiful princess and in time became the king of the land.
